The Canal

Original Watercolor, 22″ x 30″

This is the small harbor of Greenbackville, Virginia as it was in 1975. Greenbackville is a small fishing/crabbing village (200 population) on the Chincoteague Bay. This is where the Hudson’s were born and raised for generations. Bill spent his summers here staying with his grandparents who ran the small store (not shown) just to the left of the Atlantic sign. Bill learned to swim at this dock where his grandfather, a waterman who couldn’t swim, tied a rope around Bill’s waist and threw him in.
