Motif #1

Original Watercolor, 10″ x 14″

This is the harbor in Rockport, Massachusetts. The red building in the background is referred to as “Motif #1” because it is claimed to be the most often-painted building in America. The composition has all the elements one would expect in a Northeast harbor scene. . . lobster pots and buoys, a fish shack and wharf, skiffs and lobster boats, New England architecture, and an historic small town. Like other artists, I’ve taken many reference photographs of this scene and have now painted it several times.
