This painting involved deep reflection on my adolescent life. Each year I left Baltimore to spend summers with my grandparents in Greenbackville, Virginia (population 250) on the Eastern Shore’s Chincoteague Bay. Every day I crabbed and fished from my rowboat. I realized value as a waterman and loved the beauty of maritime life which remains my motivation to paint.
