A small island off the “Eastern Shore” of Virginia, Chincoteague is famous for its yearly pony penning event. The wild horses of neighboring Assateague Island are herded to swim the channel connecting the two islands. Excess horses are auctioned with the profits going to the Chincoteague Fire Department.
